An automobile elevator works using either a hydraulic piston or a traction rope system. In a hydraulic car lift, a pump forces oil into a cylinder, pushing the platform up; releasing pressure lowers it. In a traction system, an electric motor drives a sheave that moves steel ropes connected to the car platform and a counterweight. The driver pulls their vehicle onto the platform, exits the cabin, presses a floor button on the wall panel or remote, and the car is transported automatically. These include auto-levelling at each floor, multi-beam door sensors, and ARD systems for complete safety.

A standard Attico car elevator requires a shaft of approximately 2,700 mm (width) × 5,200 mm (length) for a standard sedan. For an SUV or MUV, allow 3,000 mm × 5,800 mm. The pit depth requirement is as low as 200 mm (for hydraulic systems), making retrofits feasible in most existing buildings.
